Driven by the war in Ukraine, energy prices have risen sharply again since the end of February 2022. Energy prices had already risen significantly in 2021 in the wake of the economic recovery following the COVID-19-related economic downturn. In light of the military actions in Ukraine, there is growing urgency for additional measures to ease the burden on consumers and businesses, beyond those already agreed upon in recent weeks.
