On 7 March, scientists from the USA and internationally will raise their voices for free science. In solidarity with our American colleagues, S4F Austria is calling on all individuals and institutions in science to join a March for Science: together, we want to remind people how much we owe to free science!

In these times, we watch with dismay at the events unfolding in the United States of America, where an unprecedented attack on the freedom of science is taking place. Through a raft of decrees, institutions are being dismantled, funding cut, entire fields of research banned, and researchers and disciplines discredited. In Austria, too, hostility towards science is growing and the freedom of science is increasingly under attack.

That is why Scientists4Future (S4F) Austria is organising a March for Science on 7 March to highlight the vital importance of science and education for society as a whole. The core message is meant to be a positive statement about the importance of science and its freedom, directed at policymakers and civil society alike, and concerning all scientific disciplines and institutions.

When: 7.3.2025, rally at 1 pm

Where: in front of the University of Vienna, followed by a march to Ballhausplatz
