14:30 - 17:00 Workshop for Early-Career Researchers, Presentation language: German - Location: Seminar Room BA 08A, BA Building, 8th Floor

What are my chances of a career in academia? What might that actually look like in practice? What attractive alternatives or exit strategies are there? Many young researchers are asking themselves these and similar questions in times of a rapidly changing academic environment that places high professional and personal demands on researchers. For this year's CCCA Early-Career Working Group Workshop, we're inviting three speakers from the three areas of science, policy, and practice to outline their career paths and discuss them with participants. The aim is to show CCCA young researchers options for their own professional future — in research and beyond.

  • Science sector: Andrea Steiner - University of Graz, Wegener Center
  • Policy sector: Katharina Kowalski - BMNT, Department of Sustainable Finance and Location Policy
  • Practice sector: Gerfried Koch - Climate and Energy Manager Baden
  • Funding sector: Ylva Huber - FFG - Austrian Research Promotion Agency

17:30 - 21:00 Klimatag Icebreaker "Technology for the Future" - Location: TUtheSky, BA Building, 11th Floor

On the evening of 24 April 2019, we'll be kicking things off at the Vienna University of Technology with an icebreaker, giving everyone a chance to mingle in a relaxed atmosphere and get into the right headspace for the next two days. Short input presentations and flash talks from researchers at the TU Austria universities are planned. The range of topics spans from methods and technologies through to technologies for capturing climate-relevant data. The focus is on how the engineering sciences can contribute to tackling climate change.

You can find the overview slides for the programme here.

14:30- 16:00 Workshop "Landslide Risks: Historical Land Use and Climate Change" - Location: Seminar Room Meteorology, Ground Floor

Landslides will be among the most costly impacts of climate change in Austria in the near future. However, little is known about the reasons for their occurrence and the influence of historical land use changes. In this interactive session, research findings from the ACRP project ILLAS on this topic will be presented, reviewed by the relevant specialist officials regarding their practical relevance, and discussed with the audience.
