Climate Walk Innsbruck

15:00 – 17:00 Climate Walk Innsbruck - Step by Step Towards Solutions for the Climate Crisis I Venue: Innsbruck

back to overview

Climate Walks / urban walks / excursions are a transdisciplinary format for exploring solutions to the climate crisis together with societal stakeholders. A Climate Walk creates new perspectives and lets participants experience challenges (e.g. heat stress) and best practices (e.g. green-blue infrastructure or shared spaces). Local expert contributors provide background and context.

As the opening event of the Klimatag, we're offering an urban walk under Innsbruck's motto "Alpine-Urban", with references to the Alps as a living and economic space. There'll also be time at the end to catch up over drinks & snacks at the Agnes Heller Haus.

After the registration deadline, participants will receive an email with further information about the Climate Walk.
Participation: limited, first-come-first-served basis

Icebreaker

17:30 – 22:00     Icebreaker I Venue: Universität Innsbruck, Uni Lounge, Ágnes-Heller-Haus, Ground Floor, Innrain 52a, 6020 Innsbruck

back to overview

The 25th Austrian Climate Day takes place from 23 to 25 April at the Universität Innsbruck. The programme kicks off on Wednesday, 23 April 2025 at 17:30, with the Icebreaker, which will focus on setting the tone for the conference and the theme "The Alps as a Living and Economic Space", as well as networking amongst participants.

The evening will be opened by the Vice-Rector for Research of the host institution, Universität Innsbruck, Gregor Weihs, with a brief welcome. This will be followed by an initial impulse from the Research Focus "Alpine Space" on the challenges and potential of sustainable development in the alpine region, providing an introduction to the conference theme "The Alps as a Living and Economic Space".

A further thematic highlight will be the presentation of the project PEAK (Perspectives on Engagement, Accountability and Knowledge), run by the Universität Innsbruck's public relations office, which brings key questions on climate, biodiversity and sustainability into the spotlight of science communication.

As part of the Icebreaker, the Climate Day exhibition "Echoes of Landscape Lost" by Jessie Pitt and Lindsey Nicholson will also be opened. 2025 is the UN Year of Glacier Preservation. Here in Austria, however, even under the most optimistic climate scenario, fewer than 6% of today's glaciers will survive. The landscape is expected to become effectively deglaciated. This exhibition reflects on humanity's entanglement in this glacial retreat, with our varied roles as engineers, witnesses, and mourners of the transition to an Austria without glacial ice.

Jessie Pitt: Jessie was born in Australia and lives in the Ötztal. Her inspiration comes from her connection to nature and the earth. Over the past five years, she has focused on the subject of glaciers. She documents the phases of ice loss through painting, drawing, video and installation.

Lindsey Nicholson: Born in the United Kingdom, Lindsey is an artist and scientist living in Innsbruck. In her artistic work, she explores the boundaries of scientific and artistic inquiry and knowledge, and how these can generate meaning in society. She holds a BSc in Geography, a PhD in Glaciology, and an MA in Applied Arts. Instagram: @linz_aye

Afterwards, all participants are warmly invited to connect and engage in lively discussions over an open get-together.
