Institute of Journalism and Digital Media — Academic Programme / part-time SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNICATION AND CLIMATE JOURNALISM

FH JOANNEUM is offering a unique academic programme in "Sustainability Communication and Climate Journalism" starting in autumn 2023 — the only one of its kind in the German-speaking world. The programme is aimed at journalists as well as communicators from businesses, NGOs, politics and public administration, education and culture. The course is strongly interdisciplinary in its approach and committed to a demanding ethical-normative understanding of sustainability. Its unique features include in-depth courses in the natural and earth sciences, innovative theory and practice modules (climate culture, future discourses, climate-conscious storytelling) and innovative learning formats.

Selected Content
Providing evidence-based and trustworthy information about the climate, biodiversity and sustainability crises, as well as about promising solutions, is one of the central tasks of professional communication. Journalists and communicators alike need a solid understanding of the scientific foundations of these crises and must familiarise themselves with their wide-ranging social, economic and political interactions. The goal: to develop and implement exceptional, effective communication solutions that can contribute to the socio-ecological transformation.

Planned start: 26 September 2023 (online introduction)
