Working group currently on hold

An effective implementation of the 1.5°C target agreed upon in Paris requires a societal transformation. This can only succeed if all those involved pull together and every individual in society is willing to do their bit. Extensive communication and education measures are needed to raise awareness, consciousness, and willingness to act within society. Climate change communication, as the interface between society and science, takes on a new and central role in this. A transdisciplinary, Austria-wide network can help to build and strengthen this interface, and thereby significantly increase the societal impact of climate research.

The aim of the working group is therefore the long-term networking of actors in Austria who are active in the field of climate change communication in both research and practice. In doing so, the working group picks up on the core ideas and objectives of the CCCA networking project "C4-Austria - Connecting Climate Change Communicators in Austria", and can deepen and institutionalise these. Within the framework of C4Austria, important first steps were already developed, which can now be taken up, advanced, and implemented by the working group. A networking workshop in October 2016 in Vienna and the carrying out of a status analysis — providing an overview of existing challenges and potential for climate communication in Austria — laid important foundations for further activities of the working group. The necessary objectives of the working group were developed collaboratively with participants during the networking workshop.
