Fireside chat on 2.12.2025: Stahlstadt Re-loaded, Wissensturm Linz (E09) & Online
Spatial dimensions of industrial transformation processes.
What future potential do productive spaces offer for liveable cities and their metropolitan regions?
The fireside chat at the Wissensturm Linz focused on the spatial and social dimensions of industrial transformation processes in Linz, a city strongly shaped by steel production.
Following several keynote presentations, experts and the in-person and online audience discussed how cities like Linz can use sustainable production methods as catalysts for future-oriented urban development.
CCCA would particularly like to thank Jakob Pesendorfer, who as a member of the Early Career Researchers Working Group initiated and moderated the evening.
The aim was to bring together perspectives, spark ideas, and find ways to tackle tomorrow's challenges together — across disciplinary boundaries, working towards a sustainable future that thinks outside the box.
The following questions were explored, often using Linz as a case study:
What approaches are needed to translate the potential opportunities of transformation processes into spatially effective outcomes, and how can existing ideas be developed further?
How can the production sites of tomorrow be integrated into metropolitan regions in a way that contributes to the holistic development of the urban region? What approaches and examples point the way towards sustainable urban regions?
What specific urban development projects can we learn from in order to make Linz future-ready and resilient? What perspectives does this open up for the further development and strengthening of Linz as a production location?
On behalf of the engaged audience, we'd like to extend our thanks for the informative keynote presentations:
