SDG13 Options Report and Targets

SDG 13 Options Report

As part of the CCCA sponsorship for SDG 13, 11 options have been developed to support Austria on its path towards a sustainable future. These UniNEtZ options are aimed primarily at political decision-makers and were written by more than 30 scientists from 11 different research institutions, published in early 2022. The SDG 13 section of the UniNEtZ Options Report is structured as follows:

  • a description of the SDG 13 goal and its five associated targets (see below), and
  • one chapter each covering the eleven SDG 13 options.

SDG 13 Options:

These options, along with all other options developed within UniNEtZ, are available both as abstracts and full versions (published on an ongoing basis) on the UniNEtZ website here

These 11 options are far from covering all the climate protection measures needed to put Austria on the path to a sustainable and climate-friendly future. However, SDG 13 has many co-benefits with other SDGs and their options, meaning that many climate-relevant topics can also be found in options under other SDGs.

Reports on SDG 13 and its targets:

SDG 13 Targets

Target 13.1 Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.

Target 13.2 Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning.

Target 13.3 Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity with regard to climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

Target 13.a Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilising jointly USD 100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation, and fully operationalise the Green Climate Fund through its capitalisation as soon as possible.

Target 13.b Promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing states, including focusing on women, youth and local and marginalised communities.
