Background Information on the AAR14

The AAR14 is modelled on the assessment reports of the IPCC. It consists of 3 volumes, each headed by 3–4 "Co-Chairs".

The chapters of the volumes are generally developed by 2 "Coordinating Lead Authors" (CLA), who coordinate the contributions of the "Lead Authors" (LA) and the "Contributing Authors" (CA). The organiser and project submitter is the "Organising Committee" (N. Nakicenovic/TU Wien and IIASA, H. Kromp-Kolb/BOKU; K. Steininger/Wegener Center University of Graz).

The "Scientific Advisory Board" (SAB) is chaired by J. Jäger (Independent Scholar), D. Jacob (Climate Service Center) and D. Messner (German Development Institute). The external review is carried out by IIASA under the leadership of K. Riahi and M. Rogner.

As with the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the technical work must be carried out on a voluntary basis. However, the "Austrian Climate Research Programme" (ACRP) funding programme of the Climate and Energy Fund finances as many of the material costs and administrative support measures as possible (such as workshops, production of the report (e.g. graphic designers, printing), administrative support for Coordinating Lead Authors and Co-Chairs, as well as administration of the external review process).

The compilation of a consolidated overview of the current state of knowledge on climate change in Austria (including climate change impacts, adaptation, and emissions reduction) and the bringing together of existing research findings create important foundations for decision-makers from public administration, interest groups, the private sector, and NGOs.

The 1st APCC Stakeholder Workshop took place on 23 January 2012 at TU Wien. Around 80 participants helped shape the content and structure of the report from the very start through their interaction with the authors.

The 2nd Stakeholder Workshop was held on 16 July 2013, likewise at TU Wien, with numerous interested parties and authors in attendance.
