The aim was to contribute to the transformation of society and to integrate and perceive climate protection and sustainability as a matter of course in the school environment as well as in everyday life. makingAchange is a collaborative project between science and schools. CCCA – Climate Change Centre Austria, together with the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, invited all secondary schools to take part in the project on the topic of "climate change and sustainability" in Austria.
Applications
Eligible to participate were schools from all across Austria of all types from secondary level I onwards. Both schools that already had projects running in this subject area — including to expand them — and schools that were just starting to engage with the topic were welcome to apply. It was encouraged for schools to take part in several activities, but it was also possible to sign up for just one. Joint applications from several schools, e.g. if they share a site, were also possible.
The selection of funded projects was carried out by a jury made up of members of the makingAchange project team and the BMBWF, as well as the regional education authorities. The selection process paid attention to a balanced geographical distribution and the involvement of as wide a variety of school types as possible. Applications with clear concepts for sustaining activities beyond the project period were given preferential consideration.
Final report on the survey of educational measures on the topic of climate change for the secondary school sector in Austria
As part of the makingAchange project, a survey of educational measures in the field of climate change in Austria's secondary school sector was carried out. The aim was to identify existing organisations, institutions and other associations in Austria that already offer programmes on the topic of climate change education. In addition, the survey sought to find out whether there are already initial or continuing training opportunities for educators in this area.
