Klimatag News: Save the date

20th Austrian Klimatag

The 20th Austrian Klimatag will take place from 24–26 April 2019 at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna.

The Austrian Klimatag is a scientific conference that also offers programme elements for an interested general public, with the aim of providing an overview of current Austrian research activities in the areas of climate change, impacts, adaptation and mitigation.

The Klimatag serves as the central networking event of the climate research community, facilitating exchange and contact between all individuals and institutions with an interest in climate change. In addition, the Klimatag connects natural science, socioeconomic, and humanities and cultural studies disciplines, and promotes exchange between basic research, applied research and practitioners.

The Klimatag is open to encouraging and fostering dialogue, discussion and networking between scientific and non-scientific groups.

Green Meeting

The Klimatag is set to be certified as a Green Meeting again in 2019. The Klimatag will be organised as resource-efficiently as possible, thereby taking on a pioneering role as a climate-friendly event.

News & General

Submission of a statement on the Location Development Act – StEntG

We'd like to draw your attention to the fact that statements on the ministerial draft concerning the Federal Act on the Development and Further Development of Austria as a Business Location (Location Development Act – StEntG) can still be submitted until 17 August.

The Location Development Act is intended to establish that the federal government can confirm the particular public interest of the Republic of Austria in individual projects that serve the development or further development of Austria as a business location to an extraordinary degree, in order to be able to attach special procedure-accelerating measures to them.

Invitation to the specialist conference "Winter Tourism and Climate Change in Austria"

The Institute of Landscape Development, Recreation and Conservation Planning at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna is organising an exchange of ideas on the topic of tourism and climate change as part of the APCC project Special Report Tourism (SR 19). The event will take place on 16 November 2018, running all day at Kavalierhaus Klessheim near Salzburg.

This project is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund and is being carried out within the framework of the "10th Call Austrian Climate Research Programme - ACRP" programme. The SR 19 is being produced in cooperation with CCCA. Anyone expecting a conventional specialist conference will surely be in for a surprise. Here, EVERYONE gets a say: the experts, the specialist planners, those directly affected, but also climate change sceptics, fatalists and advocates of a zero-cost approach to adaptation.

Using a mix of short presentations, panel discussions and active audience participation, specialist questions, "real" and "fake" news surrounding climate change adaptation in ski resorts in relation to winter tourism will be addressed. Join the discussion and register here: sr19.ccca.ac.at

Invitation: Environmental Law Forum Graz

From 8 to 10 November 2018, the international conference of the Environmental Law Forum Graz will take place in Graz under the title "Climate Change, Responsibility and Liability".

Experts from various continents will examine the legal, scientific, economic and philosophical questions that climate change raises with regard to the responsibility and liability of states and companies. The aim of the conference is to raise awareness of current and future challenges and to promote interdisciplinary scientific dialogue.

Further information on the programme and registration can be found at: https://climate-law-2018.uni-graz.at/de/
