Dear CCCA-News subscriber,
Two weeks ago, the 18th Austrian Climate Day took place at the University of Vienna. In this newsletter, we'd like to share highlights from three days of exchange and networking, and give you an outlook on upcoming events, calls, and climate-relevant content.
Here's a quick overview of the other topics:
The CCCA team hopes you enjoy the read!
The highlights of Climate Day 2017, held from 22–24 May at the University of Vienna, are available to read on the website, where you can also browse through the impressions. Presentations that were given at the Climate Day and made available can likewise be found on the website.
If you're still interested in having your presentation published, you're welcome to send it to us at klimatag@ccca.ac.at.
The 18th Austrian Climate Day was licensed by the University of Vienna's event management team and meets the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel UZ62 for "Green Meetings and Green Events".
The Climate Day was therefore carried out in as resource-efficient and environmentally friendly a manner as possible!
Is the topic of "Green Meeting" important to you? Do you have any feedback on the Ecolabel certification of the Climate Day? We'd love to hear from you — please share your feedback on the Green Meeting via this link at meetings.umweltzeichen.at.
Thanks to your feedback, we can work towards making the Climate Day even more sustainable in future!
At the 18th Austrian Climate Day, the CCCA Early Career Researcher Award was once again presented and the best poster recognised. Due to two submissions of equally high quality for the early career award, the Climate Day programme committee decided to award the CCCA Early Career Researcher Award to two young researchers. Congratulations go to Sabine Rumpf from the University of Vienna and to Dominik Thom from BOKU.
For their visually appealing and clearly accessible presentation, high scientific quality, and societal relevance of their poster contributions, Susanna Tscharner (BOKU) and Christoph Schürz (BOKU) took 1st and 2nd place in the poster prize.
The Climate Day generated a great deal of coverage in the Austrian media landscape! You can also find a collection of media reports here!
Many thanks to all supporters of the Climate Day! You can find all co-organisers and partners here. The organising team extends its thanks for your participation and looks forward to the next Climate Day 2018 in Salzburg.
As part of the 18th Austrian Climate Day, the Julius von Hann Medal in Gold was awarded by the Austrian Meteorological Society to Dr Ingeborg Auer.
The award goes to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the science of meteorology and/or climatology. The board of the Climate Change Centre Austria extends its warmest congratulations on this honour!
The Austrian Panel on Climate Change has been established and held its first constitutive meeting on 29 May. The panel members were proposed by the APCC working group and nominated by the CCCA board.
We're delighted to have won over Sabine Fuss from the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC), Martina Schuster, Head of the Energy and Economic Policy Division at the BMLFUW, and Helmut Haberl, Head of the Institute of Social Ecology at the Alpen-Adria-Universität and Deputy Chair of the CCCA board, for the panel.
APCC ensures the continuity and process quality of its outputs, as well as adherence to the APCC quality standards.
Full details on APCC and the APCC quality criteria can be found here.
As part of the 10th call of the Austrian Climate Research Programme (ACRP, Klima- und Energiefonds), another APCC Special Report has been put out to tender.
You can find information about the call here as well as under "Calls" on the CCCA website. APCC products serve to survey, summarise and evaluate the current state of science and research, and are developed with the involvement of the entire relevant Austrian scientific community.
To this end, the APCC working group invites everyone interested in contributing to the Special Report on Tourism and is offering support with consortium building as part of a working group meeting. This meeting will take place on 28 June 2017.
If you're interested in attending the meeting and contributing to the APCC Special Report on Tourism, please get in touch with the CCCA office at info@ccca.ac.at.
At the beginning of May, the Science Plan for Austrian climate research was presented. The aim of the Science Plan is to serve as a guiding framework for Austrian climate research and to improve its societal impact and acceptance.
You can download the Science Plan here.
If you'd like a printed copy, we're happy to send you one on request at: info@ccca.ac.at.
