CCCA Updates

17th Austrian Climate Day

The 17th Austrian Climate Day will take place from 6 to 8 April 2016 in Graz, at the University of Graz.

The Climate Day is a great opportunity to get a solid overview of current Austrian climate research and the key topics in the climate change debate. Alongside the scientific programme, an interesting fringe programme is once again in the works.

A special new feature this time is the Preconference Day on 6 April. This day will include dedicated programme items for early-career researchers as well as an exciting networking programme.

In addition, a further workshop on linking science and public administration is planned.

All the latest information will be published on an ongoing basis here and shared via our various information channels. Online registration for submitting talks and posters, as well as general sign-up for the Climate Day, opens in mid-November.

If you have any questions about the Climate Day, please get in touch with Julia Kolar (klimatag@ccca.ac.at) and Ingeborg Schwarzl (ingeborg.schwarzl@ccca.ac.at).

News from the Austrian Panel on Climate Change (APCC)

APCC – new information materials

Following the completion of the assessment report on climate change at the end of 2014, a range of information materials on APCC and the climate report were produced on behalf of the Climate and Energy Fund. This project has now been completed, and you can find a wealth of information materials available for download on the APCC website!

In addition to the assessment report in various formats in both German and English, the materials now also include slide sets and video clips for each chapter of the AAR14, which can be used for talks and presentations, as well as for anyone with a general interest in the findings and content of the AAR14.

Interested in using texts or figures from the AAR14 in your publication or presentation? You can download all graphics from the report directly from the website. Information on citation formats and copyrights, as well as the conditions for using graphics and tables, can be found on the relevant pages.

A flyer in German and English provides a brief overview of the assessment report and the available materials.

AG APCC

To carry the APCC forward, the Working Group APCC (AG-APCC) has been established. The AG-APCC's remit is to develop concrete plans for the continuation of the APCC, define future APCC products and their criteria, and accompany the ongoing process.

The working group is open to additional interested parties. If you'd like to get involved in the AG-APCC and take part in its meetings, please contact Julia Kolar (julia.kolar@ccca.ac.at) at the CCCA office.

Literature Database

In the Austrian assessment report on climate change 2014 (AAR14), in addition to internationally published peer-reviewed journal articles, grey literature was also drawn upon to a greater extent — though, as with the IPCC, only on the condition that it was accessible or had been made accessible. This appeared necessary to a greater degree at the national level, as studies addressing local and regional questions are often not published in refereed journals, yet can still make a significant contribution to the state of knowledge about climate change in Austria.

As a by-product of the AAR14, what has emerged is not only a literature database containing all references cited in the report, but also a collection of grey literature that is being made accessible through the Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA) and will continue to be maintained. The database currently holds over 3,500 literature references from more than 8,000 authors.

AUTreach Online Platform – a hub for effective climate communication

How can climate topics be communicated to young people in a way that's clear and motivating? What formats does young people's climate engagement actually need?

These are the questions being explored by the AUTreach research project, funded by the Climate and Energy Fund, which actively engages in dialogue with young people. The AUTreach online platform now brings together a collection of websites, videos, games, books, and apps designed to inspire new approaches to climate communication.

Project results can be found in the first publications from the project, in which BOKU and other project partners are involved, or you can access the findings of an online survey of young people.
