Structures for a climate-friendly life
The APCC Special Report Structures for a Climate-Friendly Life is an evaluative summary of current research on the transformation towards structures that enable climate-friendly action and thus living for everyone. Through a systematic presentation of effective design options, the report contributes to climate policy debates. Narratives connect theories of societal transformation with contextualised strategies for sustainably addressing the climate crisis. This enables a well-founded yet multi-perspective discourse on the substantial reduction of greenhouse gas emissions across all areas of contemporary societies.
The report examines five report-accompanying questions, theories of societal change, six fields of action, and eight structural conditions. These are brought together in a scientific synthesis of action options, and further developed by stakeholders into desirable and feasible narratives.
Report-accompanying questions:
- How would you describe the status quo, as well as the dynamics of current change?
- What specific goals, challenges, and conflicts arise as a result of the climate crisis?
- What changes are (absolutely) necessary to enable a climate-friendly way of life?
- Who or what are the driving and inhibiting forces or actors for or against the necessary changes for a climate-friendly life?
- What possibilities or design options exist for implementing the necessary changes towards a climate-friendly way of life?
To ensure that the report "stays grounded" and takes into account the questions that matter most to practitioners and policymakers, the broadest and most active possible involvement of stakeholders is sought. Interested citizens and stakeholders from ministries, federal states, NGOs, and interest groups are invited to read and comment on the report. Two meetings will provide an opportunity for direct exchange between authors and stakeholders.
This project is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund and carried out within the framework of the "12th Call Austrian Climate Research Programme – ACRP" programme.
