The circular economy is a real champion of climate protection: instead of throwing products away after a short time, the focus is on reuse, repair, and recycling. This keeps valuable resources in circulation for longer – and saves a huge amount of energy and greenhouse gas emissions. That's because producing new products often generates large quantities of greenhouse gases, especially when raw materials have to be newly extracted. So by using materials cleverly and avoiding waste, we're also doing something good for the environment and the climate.
The circular economy shows that sustainability can be innovative, economical, and forward-looking. There are already lots of exciting approaches out there – from recyclable clothing to refillable or compostable packaging, right through to entirely new business models.
