What we eat has not only a direct impact on our bodies and our health, but also on the climate. Around a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions can be attributed to the food system. The production of animal products in particular carries a lot of weight here. At the same time, a meat-heavy diet increases the risk of illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and certain types of cancer.
In Austria, meat consumption is around 3x higher than recommended by the Austrian Nutrition Society. So better eat your veggies instead!
Because a plant-focused diet not only reduces health risks, but also cuts greenhouse gas emissions by around half!
Choosing organic products can, by the way, reduce emissions even further.
