Workshop CCCA Data Centre - From Metadata to NetCDF

Given the growing popularity of Python in the natural sciences, this workshop aims to provide an overview of useful modules for working with metadata and datasets from the CCCA Data Centre.
Via the application programming interface (API), metadata in the data portal can be created, updated, and queried in a filtered manner in an automated way. The datasets of the previously processed metadata will be briefly analysed and visualised by way of example. Finally, multidimensional datasets in NetCDF format will be visualised, averaged temporally and spatially, and results exported in CSV and NetCDF.

If you're interested, please register directly via the registration page.

18:00-22:00

Klimatag Icebreaker

The transition between the afternoon programme and the icebreaker will be seamless.

The networking day will wrap up with regional delicacies and an impressive presentation by Harry Spiess, Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAM). Title of the talk: "The Alps in Transition – a personal account from TransALPedes 1992 to whatsalp 2017".

Keynote Lecture Kate Raworth - Doughnut Economics

The commitments made so far to counter climate change fall short. But rather than an expansion of measures, the world is increasingly confronted with political and social polarisation that threatens to undermine the progress achieved so far. What's needed is a consistent integration of social and ecological solutions. Drawing on her new book "Doughnut Economics", Kate Raworth will show how this integration can be achieved and what particular role thinking about economic relationships plays in this.

Moderation: Helga Kromp-Kolb, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna

Workshop on Networking between Science and Administration - Plenary

Title: The Tensions of Climate Research – everyone wants the best, but does everyone get what they need?

Researchers do research, funding bodies fund research, users use research results. Everyone wants relevant research questions, targeted funding programmes, and applicable results – and yet many wishes remain unfulfilled. This event at the Austrian Klimatag 2018 will explore from a wide range of perspectives how the interplay between actors at different levels can be optimised – and what it takes to get there.

Taking part in the panel discussion:

  • Ingmar Höbarth - Managing Director, Klima und Energiefonds
  • Helmut Hojesky - Head of Climate Protection and Air Quality, BMNT
  • Birgit Bednar-Friedl - Economist, University of Graz
  • Markus Kottek (Climate Protection Coordinator, Carinthia)
  • Gerhard Pausch (Regional Association Salzburger Seenland)
  • Stefan Kienberger (University of Salzburg)

Workshop on Handling Personal Data
In July 2017, the Data Protection Adaptation Act 2018 was passed. The aim of the workshop is to discuss the legal requirements on the one hand, and good scientific practice on the other. The workshop does not provide binding legal expertise, but rather mutual awareness-raising and an exchange of experience.

Klima-Waagnis with Hermann Josef Hack

At the invitation of the organisers of the Austrian Klimatag, Hermann Josef Hack will carry out an art installation on the evening of 24 April on Mozartplatz with everyone who wants to take part. He will attempt to create, for a moment, a state of balance that is only possible in community with many others. Through a connection of spirit levels balanced at the same height between the participants, one can sense how delicate the sought-after equilibrium is, and how rewarding the moment is when it is achieved together.

Hermann Josef Hack founded the GLOBAL BRAINSTORMING PROJECT in 1991, under which he has so far realised over 200 actions and projects worldwide. As a painter, his works on tent canvases anticipate many global developments and create icons for transformation.

The action will take place outdoors. Appropriate clothing is recommended.

19:45-22:00

After the conference programme, participants are warmly invited to round off the evening with regional delicacies in a cosy setting.
