NETWORKING DAY AT THE AUSTRIAN CLIMATE DAY

The Climate Day 2018 was once again opened with the so-called Networking Day, which focuses on the exchange between climate researchers and, in particular, with stakeholders from administration and practice, this year under the motto "Alpine Regions in Climate Change – The Alpine Convention as a Platform for New Ideas and Approaches to Sustainable Development". The event was opened by Markus Reiterer, Secretary General of the Alpine Convention, and Herbert Formayer, Professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences. In workshop sessions, the topics of tourism, communication and awareness-raising, as well as climate monitoring were then explored and discussed with the approximately 80 participants. To continue the lively discussions from the communication session, a follow-up workshop on this topic is being planned.
The Networking Day was organised in cooperation with the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention and the Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism.

At the same time, there was once again an exchange meeting for early-career researchers, who discussed the topic of "Alpine Risks – Challenges, Solutions, Governance". The early-career researchers were able to use the meeting to present their research projects and work on the topic and to identify and make use of potential interfaces with the other participants. Chris Schubert, head of the CCCA Data Centre, introduced participants to available data, datasets and options for using the Data Centre, while Michalis Tzatzanis from the FFG presented funding opportunities for early-career researchers under Horizon 2020.
The exchange meeting also aimed above all to bring early-career researchers from various research institutions together, connect them with one another, and initiate potential collaborations and follow-ups for the future.

After treats from the buffet, the day wrapped up with an input by Harry Spiess (ZHAM) entitled "The Alps in Transition – a personal account from TransALPedes 1992 to whatsalp 2017".
