Programme Details - Klimatag 2022

09:00 – 12:00     Interactive Workshop (Social Simulation) on Vienna's Transport Policy (online)

back to overview

Please note: the workshop duration of up to 3 hours should be understood as the maximum duration; the simulation may also be shorter

This interactive workshop (Social Simulation) was developed by members of the Equity and Justice Research Group at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and the Centre for Systems Solutions (CRS) as part of an international research project.

The City of Vienna, as well as Austria and the European Union, have set themselves the goal of drastically reducing transport-related emissions in order to tackle the climate crisis. There are different visions for achieving this ambitious goal: the widespread introduction of electric vehicles in private transport, a significant expansion of public transport, increased support for shared mobility and active mobility, as well as improved conditions for cycling and pedestrian traffic.

The simulation will engage participants in a discussion on various visions for decarbonising passenger transport in Vienna. Participants will deliberate on, discuss, and collaboratively develop fictitious but plausible policy proposals in response to real challenges facing the city.

General information on the background and format of such simulations can be found here

14:30 – 17:30     CCCA Early-Career Workshop on "Climate Research that Makes an Impact in Practice" I Venue: TU Wien, Getreidemarkt 9, BA 10A & BA 10B

back to overview

"How can my research be better heard, seen, and understood by the public?"
"What content and exchange formats do decision-makers from business and public administration want?"

Many early-career researchers in the field of climate research are asking themselves these and similar questions in the era of "for future" movements. For this year's CCCA Early-Career Workshop, we are therefore inviting experts from the fields of business, public administration, and the media to offer participants an outside perspective on climate research and to discuss with them which research findings actually "get through" to them.

In discussion groups, they'll share valuable insights into "their world" and give participants feedback on concrete examples, questions, and ideas from the research process (e.g. texts, graphics, presentation of results, communication channels, involvement of relevant stakeholders in the research process, exchange formats).

Panel guests:

  • Sandra Walder (APA - Head of Climate Focus)
  • Sabine Hoffmann (ambuzzador - founder & Social Media Expert)
  • Rainhard Fuchs (glacier - Co-founder & CPO)
  • Susanna Erker (City of Vienna - Head of Energy Planning Department)
  • Michalis Tzatzanis (FFG - European and International Programmes)

Moderation: Angelika Wolf - CCCA

Registration: Binding registration via the Klimatag portal. Participation is limited to a maximum of 25 people. The workshop is in principle open to all interested parties from CCCA member organisations; however, places will be allocated on a priority basis to young scientists (Master's, PhD & early post-doc level).

Further details can be found in the invitation

14:45 – 15:45     Vienna Climate Games Workshop in cooperation with InFER, BOKU I Venue: Uni AK, Vordere Zollamtsstraße 7, SR24

back to overview

Have you ever wondered why findings from climate science don't always translate into policy measures? How does decision-making work, and why aren't actions taken immediately and on a large scale?

In the Vienna Climate Games Workshop, you can dive into negotiations on climate protection measures for the city of Vienna up to 2030 through the climate action card game developed together with Viennese school pupils, and learn how balancing interests and exercising power work in negotiations. Be prepared, though, to take on a role in the negotiation process — working together to reduce as many CO2 emissions as possible whilst also representing your own interests. The game is generally suitable for 6–30 players. It can therefore be used for family game nights as well as with larger groups of friends, or later by you for teaching at university or in schools, with the accompanying teaching materials.

Moderation: Sarah Louise Nash, BOKU & Helga Pülzl, European Forest Institute
