Climate Review Salzburg 2024

2024 was by far the warmest year in Salzburg's meteorological history, with a mean temperature of 6.5 °C, surpassing the previously warmest year, 2018, by 0.6 °C. The mean temperatures for February, March, and August were each the warmest on record for the federal state. Overall, 7 months achieved top 10 rankings. In June, July, and August, thunderstorms triggered by the summer heat led to numerous severe weather damage events. The cumulative daily precipitation totals from January through August largely corresponded to those of an average annual cycle. In mid-September, a Mediterranean low brought enormous amounts of precipitation, causing severe flooding in some areas and extreme fresh snow totals (for September) above 1,500 m above sea level…
