Although 2021 didn't reach the extremely high mean temperature values of previous years, it was still far too warm with an anomaly of +1.3 °C. March and June in particular were exceptionally dry months. A notable precipitation deficit of 16 % persisted throughout the entire year. 2021 continued the series of very sunny years, with a surplus of 17 % in sunshine hours. Spring was only 0.4 °C too cool, but that was enough to make it the coolest since 1996. As a result of a prolonged heatwave, June was the third warmest and sunniest since records began.
