Climate Review Salzburg 2021

Although 2021 didn't reach the extremely high mean temperature values of previous years, it was still significantly warmer than the average for the reference period 1961–1990, with a deviation of +1.2 °C. The dry months of February, April, June and October contrasted with a rain-heavy July. The annual balance showed a slight precipitation deficit of 6%. In 2021, the series of sunny years continued, with a surplus of sunshine hours of 7%. As a result of a prolonged heatwave, June was the third warmest and second sunniest since records began. In mid-July and mid-August, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms led to partly catastrophic flooding and mudslides, including on 17 July in Hallein and from 15 to 17 August in St. Johann im Pongau, Wagrain, Altenmarkt, Dienten and Krimml...
