Although 2021 didn't quite reach the extremely high average temperatures of previous years, it was still notably warm, with a deviation of +1.2 °C. With a considerable precipitation deficit of 16%, 2021 was the driest year since 2003. Particularly low rainfall was recorded in western Styria. The series of very sunny years continued, with a surplus of 13% in sunshine hours. As a result of a prolonged heatwave, June was the third warmest and second sunniest since records began. Throughout the entire summer, Graz experienced 29 days as part of a heat period, compared to an average of just one day.
