Although 2021 didn't reach the extremely high average temperatures of previous years, it was still noticeably warm, with a deviation of +1.0 °C. The winter of 2020/21 was the second wettest in recent decades, after 2013/14. Over the course of the entire year, however, a precipitation deficit developed, particularly in Lower Carinthia. 2021 continued the series of very sunny years, with a surplus of 12 % in sunshine hours. Spring was only 0.4 °C too cool, but that was enough to make it the coolest since 1987. As a result of a prolonged heatwave, June was the third warmest and second sunniest since records began. Over the summer as a whole, Klagenfurt saw 33 days as part of a heat period, compared to the usual three.
