Climate Review Burgenland 2022

On average across Burgenland, 2022 was the third warmest year since records began, behind 2019 and 2018, and in some higher-lying areas even the warmest on record. The winter of 2021/22 was the third warmest in recorded history, behind 2006/07 and 2019/20. May, June and October ranked as the fourth warmest months in their respective comparison series. The exceptional warmth coincided with a significant precipitation deficit, resulting in pronounced drought conditions. In Eisenstadt, 2022 was the second driest year since 1948. On top of that, sunshine broke records: both the winter of 2021/22 and the following March brought more sunshine hours than at any point since at least 1961. Heatwaves in Eisenstadt lasted longer only in 2019, and the longest dry spell was only exceeded in 2011 and 1959…
