Climate Review Vienna 2022

2022 was Vienna's third warmest year since climate records began almost two and a half centuries ago, behind 2018 and 2019. The winter of 2021/22 was the second warmest in recorded history, behind 2006/07. May ranked as the third warmest, October as the fourth warmest, and June as the fifth warmest month in their respective comparison series. The exceptional warmth coincided with a significant precipitation deficit. 2022 was Vienna's driest year since 2003 and the seventh driest since records began in 1841. The first half of the year was particularly rich in sunshine. March brought more sunshine hours than at any point since 1953. Only 2018 and 2003 saw more summer days recorded at Hohe Warte than 2022. Never before had the intensity of precipitation been as low as in 2022...
