Climate Review Lower Austria 2022

On average across Lower Austria, 2022 was the third warmest year since records began, behind 2018 and 2019, and at higher elevations it was even the warmest year on record in some places. Individual months were also exceptionally warm: October ranked as the warmest month, while May and June ranked as the fifth warmest months in their respective comparison series. The pronounced warmth coincided particularly in the east with a significant precipitation deficit. Towards the west, however, precipitation amounts were normal. March stood out as the third driest and at the same time the sunniest March since at least 1961. In St. Pölten, the 25-degree mark was exceeded on 79 days. Only four other years recorded more summer days than 2022…
