Climate Review Upper Austria 2022

On average across Upper Austria, 2022 was the second warmest year since records began, behind 2018, and in some higher elevations even the warmest year on record. Individual months were also extremely warm: October came in as the warmest month, while May, June, and August ranked as the fifth warmest months in their respective comparison series. March stood out as the second driest and simultaneously the sunniest March month since at least 1961. For the eighth consecutive year, the year brought an unusually high number of sunshine hours. The sunshine surplus amounts to 15%. For the first time in the history of climate observation in Austria, a tropical night was recorded in October — namely on the night of the 30th on the Kolomansberg on the border with Salzburg…
