Climate Review Carinthia 2022

2022 broke the still recent temperature record from 2019: it was, on average across Carinthia, the warmest year since measurements began. May and October ranked as the warmest months in their respective comparison series. The summer was the third warmest in the history of measurements, behind 2003 and 2019. The exceptional warmth coincided, particularly in the south and east, with a significant rainfall deficit. Across Carinthia, 2022 was the driest year since 1971. For the fourth consecutive year, the year brought an unusually high number of sunshine hours. The first half of the year was particularly rich in sunshine. In Klagenfurt, the hot summer led to a new record for cooling demand. Only in 2003 were more summer days recorded than in 2022…
